Stecher is listed as a claimant to the title in some papers.

Lewis avoided Stecher through-out the match before finally withdrawing from the contest after being thrown into the ropes.

It's said that the audience was charged three times the price of normal admission. Due to the fiasco the match became, Mayor Ben Bosse held onto the gate receipts and stated he would give a third of the money back to the promoter to pay the wrestlers and etc., while he would keep two thirds to give to charitable organizations.

Lewis was determined by a physician to be healthy.

The Bosse also stated he would be banning any future wrestling taking place here.

According to a friend of an intimate friend of one of the wrestlers who is taking part in the international tournament at the Manhattan Opera House, the man in the black mask is Mort Henderson. Now are you any the wiser than you were before? No? Well, Henderson has been wrestling through Pennsylvania during the past year and also has competed all over the world. According to Ed Pollard, manager of the Mysterious One, Henderson is not Henderson, but a brand new wonder. At least that is what he told an Eagle representative today."

Ed "Strangler" Lewis Vs. Masked Marvel,
Curfew Draw (01:59:00)

Notes:
The police called for the last match to stop at 1AM.

Ed Pollard, Marvel's manager, gave the following quote from his man:

"I have no objection to making my name known some day, but at present the element of mystery adds to the attractiveness of the bouts. It is also a protection for certain plans I have in mind for the future. Wrestling is booming in this country, espexcially in the West, and when the international tournament here is over there wil be a number of big matches in the West, in which I intend to take part.

I have nothing to be ashamed of here. The only man who has thrown me is Lewis (Friedrich), who caught me off my guard and pinned me on Monday last. Tonight I went 1 hour 59 minutes with him to a draw and yu can bet I did not allow myself to become careless.

I weigh 210 pounds and it is all bone and sinew, without the muscles being so heavy as to interfere with themselves. My freedom of movement is largely due to my own system of exercise, which consists of using dumb-bells, but not to excess. I do not believe in those systems whereby large muscles may be developed merely by tension and relaxation, such as is most commonly seen in the Swedish system. Wrestlers have to have practical strength, and the dumb-bells give more endurance in pulling and hauling, when they are not used to excess, as is done by most wweight lifters and other professional strong men. A wrestler has to wriggle out of tight places, and for that reason his muscles should be supple to a certain extent, although not so supple as those of a boxer.

Like most American wrestlers, I have studied all styles, and challenge at all styles, but I specialize at Catch-as-Catch-Can, which is the most spectacular, the most scientific and the most useful form of the sport. Catch-as-Catch-Can is what every man attempts to employ when he comes to grips in a roughhouse or in repelling an attack. If a man is trying to make a grease spot of you it is not customary to resist him by using only holds above the waist and without the aid of the feet, as the Graeco-Roman style specifies, nor do you wait to put on a special jacket and have both you and your opponent take special preliminary grips, as other styles require. You try to get him down and climb on top of him by the best and quickest method, and that method is Catch-as-Catch-Can."

Worth noting is the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, where the above quote is from, now has no idea as to who the Marvel is. No mention of Henderson is made in the whole article which is quite lengthy and all about the Marvel.

"When the Great Unknown was sitting in the wings, mending his bellows, the reporter heard his manager whisper hoarsely: 'Have a drink of water, Mort>' 'Mort' is, unmistabkly, clipped 'Mortimer': and the only high class grappler of that liquid name is the Altoona expert. The manager, iuterrogated, was slyly evasive: 'If I Did call him "Mort," I was thinking of an old friend of mine out in Des Moines named Mort Hudson.'"

Notes:
Linow was a subtisture for Masked Marvel. Marvel's manager, Ed Pollard, asked the audience on behalf of his man if they would mind him taking the night off as he has had a strenous week and has to face Lewis tomorrow night. The audience as one told him, "Take a rest, Marvel."

It was announced that the toe-hold would be barred in Catch-as-Catch-Can bouts going forward due to criticism from the spectators.

Due to a moment in the Lewis-Aberg match where Aberg sat on Lewis' head for around 3 minutes, Bothner announced going forward no hold like that shall be held for more than three minutes unless a fall was secured. This went down well with those in attendance.

The last match was stopped due to the legal closing hour.

Rachmann gave a statement in regards to the proposed Joe Stecher-Waldek Zbyszko match on January 27 at Madison Square Garden. It went:

"My contract with the theater where we are now appearing prevents us from participating in any similar affair elsewhere for a stated period. Zbyszko came to me, however, with a strong plea to be permitted to meet Stecher, stating that he was satisfied that he could pin him to the mat. He was so insistent that I permitted the bout to be arranged. Our percentage of the receipts goes to those to whom we have contractual obligations, so that this management is in no way interested, except to give Zbyszko a chance to make good.

Aberg notified me today that he would deposit a forfeit of $10,000 of his own money in event he does not throw Stecher if given an opportunity to meet him in the style which he wrestles - Graeco-Roman. Aberg will deposit the amount with any New York sporting editor selected by stecher or will place it in escrow in any bank."

Ernest Roeber was in attendance. He was announced to the crowd and received an ovation. Roeber was a former "American wrestling champion." [American Graeco-Roman Championship - Often billed as World Graeco-Roman Champion]

Linow was said to have the upperhand in wrestling but Cazeaux in roughness. Although overall the match is to resemble 'a mixture of boxing, football, la savate, and anything else but wrestling.'
