William Muldoon was undoubtedly one of the most important wrestlers in American professional wrestling during it's growth in the 19th century. When he retired from being in the ring, he went on to be the first chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission. Due to all the control, influence and say he had in, around and over business for several decades, it's easy to think of him as the Godfather of American professional wrestling.
