Burns claimed this was his one-hundred and fifty-seventh victory since turning 50. He said the following about the victory:
"I had hoped that a good attendance of children would be present. As I wanted to tell the boys that the way to be a young man at 51 years of age is to follow five rules: Don't smoke, don't drink liquor, beer, tea or coffee and don't swear. A man who swears gets angry and a man who gets angry handicaps himself, not matter what he is trying to accomplish."
Deere is listed as the Colorado Middleweight Champion.
