It's said the winner of the last match will be presented with the "American Wrestling Association's diamon-ruby-sapphire studded belt, emblematic of the world title and valued at $10,000." - The Globe-Democrat
The belt was "recently donated by the association, has neber been placed in competition before." - The Globe-Democrat
Thesz is said to be 21 or 22 years old.
Marshall was managed by Billy Sandow.
Prior to the match Thesz signed an agreement which guaranteed Marshall a rematch within 60 days should Thesz win.
Thesz applied an airplane spin, then tried to apply a second, but Marshall "savagely" punched at his head. That caused both men to fall into the ropes, Thesz fell to the mat, but Marshall fell outside of the ring and was then counted out.
Upon winning Thesz instructed his father and business advisor, Martin, to cancel all immediate matches, so he could "rest up for a brief spell with his family."
It's said Thesz is recognized as the champion in 38 states with this win in the Stars And Times.
It's also said Thesz is the first native of St. Louis to hold a world championship.
"Quoting Sandow and Marshall:
'This surprising turn of events makes Thesz recognized as champion by Illinois, Missouri, Colorado, the Carolinas, Virginia, Florida, Wyoming, Nevada, Texas and Mississippi State Athletic Commissions, by 108 different rasslin' promoters, by several city athletic comissions, and by the Midwest Wrestling Association.'" - The Post-Dispatch
[It is initially reported in the Boston Globe that Thesz won the AWA Championship, however it is quickly forgotten about and other plans go ahead.
The Globe-Democrat of St. Louis, mentioned the above quote credited to them on the day of the match, but does not mention the AWA title in their match report]
