"The Boxing Commission yesterday approved a plan to conduct an elimination wrestling tournament in the Coliseum under the direction of Ed Contos. All heavyweights will be invited to attend, and the victor will be recognized as heavyweight champion, if Jim Londos doesn't enter the tourney his title will be declared vacant pending the outcome of the event." - The Sun

Notes:
If Jim Londos appeared in this tournament then the tournament would have been for his title.
As Londos did not appear in the tournament his title became vacant.
It was announced this tournament is for the right to face Ed "Strangler" Lewis for the vacant Maryland State Athletic Commission sanctioned World Heavyweight Championship.
All matches are to be 15 minutes in length. If any match ends in a draw there will be 5 more minutes allowed.
It's said at one point during the show the ring ropes broke.
Campofreda pulled his shoulder in his match with John Bonica and was unable to continue in the tournament.
The show lasted 3 hours.

When he broke free the two went at it "hammer and tongs."
"The pair stood in mid-ring exchanging elbow blows just before the end. When both were showing effects of the exchange, Sexton pinned Sharkey by grabbing his extended wrist and spinning him over his shoulder to the mat and securing his shoulders." - The Sun
