He particularly wants a match with Higami and is willing to meet him at either the Stadium or the Auditorium with Ed Ratsch as either the promoter or co-promoter.

APRIL 30, 1934 (MONDAY)
Honolulu, Hawaii
Civic Auditorium promoter Manuel Calhau weighed in on the Al Karasick-Gust Johnson challenge/counter-challenge controversy
Notes:
He stated, “I had a talk with Karasick soon after he landed, and he showed me a wireless from the promoter at the Stadium offering him two matches in Honolulu. After these two matches Karasick told me that he was a free agent and could wrestle wherever he wanted to wrestle. Johnson challenged and placed his $250 with the Advertiser. Now I understand that Karasick says he does not care to wrestle Johnson, but wants to meet the ‘big shot’ Higami - my answer to this is meet Johnson first, cover his money, and I am sure that I have several wrestlers who will be only to glad to meet you on the same terms. I consider Higami the champion of the middleweights down here, and Johnson, a light heavyweight.
Surely a great wrestler like yourself, would not want to pick on a middleweight when there is a light heavy ready to go against you. If the $250 purse offered by Johnson is not big enough, I believe that Johnson will be willing to double the amount.” - The Advertiser; article by William Peet

From Mark Hewitt:
"The Honolulu research files are dedicated to the memory of the late J Michael Kenyon.'JMK was “the daddy of ‘em all' in the pro wrestling research field. J Michael passed away May 3, 2017, at his home in Port Orford, OR. I never met the great man personally but we corresponded for years via email. JMK was a tremendous source of information on any and all topics, wrestling, boxing, barnstorming baseball and basketball teams, history, current events, etc. In our last email exchange, a week before he died, he commented that he had been very busy working on a basketball book project and stated, 'I’m living vicariously through your researches these days.' He added, 'I got word through the grapevine that the Spelling Police are interested in taking a HARD squint at all your 1930s Hawno-woo-woo (Elmer Fudd pronunciation) stuph…don’t be surprised if there is a late night knock at your laboratory door.'"
