"The president of the Caledonian society (Mr. W. Dawson, M.H.R.) presented to Mr. Duncan C. Ross yesterday afternoon the championship wrestling medal won at the gathering on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd inst. The medal (which has been made by Mr. E. Hogg, Princes street) is in th eform of a pendant, and bears the inscription, "Wrestling Championship of New Zealand. Won by Duncan C. Ross (and £14), Caledonian Games, Dunedin, January 1891." By reference to our report of the contest, it will be seen that Ross won the championship with a score of 12 points, viz, 1st in Cornish and Devonshire and 1st in catch-as-catch-can, Caledonian rules. Ross did not compete in Border style. It may be mentioned that Ross' military feats were greatly appreciated, and that the Governor before leaving the sports on the first day complimented him on his performance, especially for the skill with which he carried off every peg consecutively in the Indian tent-pegging display." - Otago Daily Times
