Notes:
The debut of the four wrestlers of the Sultan.
It is said the Sultan's sensational four wrestlers will debut tonight. At this point they're not mentioned by name in the press.
A pre-show article claims that this is the first time the Sultan has allowed his wrestlers to wrestle outside of Turkey and that they must win all their matches against the European champions otherwise they will be forbidden from returning to Turkey where they would be met with the death penalty if they return as losers.
It is said Fenelon has had a 90 minute draw with Tom Cannon at Folies-Bergere before and in Bordeaux Fenelon has defeated Fernand Sabes (who himself holds victories over Tom Cannon and Pietro).
[Youssouf, Nourlah and Mehmed, as they would go on to be known in France.
The fourth "Sultan wrestler" referred to here is the Bulgarian Nicolai Petroff who would initially be grouped with the Turks since all four arrived in Paris together.
The French veteran Joseph/Jean Doublier is the one who brought all four to Paris.
He first discovered Petroff in Romania sometime during the spring of 1894, turned him pro and then the story goes Petroff suggested they go to Turkey and that's how they discovered the three Turks. With Petroff serving as interpreter, Doublier convinced the Turks - who were experienced only in Turkish oil wrestling - to come to France and try their hand at Greco-Roman pro wrestling.
According to Turkish sources, the wrestlers arrived in Paris in December 1894.
In the days and weeks after that Youssouf would start being referred to as "the terrible" - making him the first known "Terrible Turk" in pro wrestling - and "the leader of the Turks" while Nourlah was usually billed as "the giant Nourlah."
Mehmed is an interesting one. According to later stories, published over the years, the third guy of the original Turk trio was Kara Osman.
Was Mehmed an alias for Kara Osman or a completely different guy? I do not know]

A few days after Kara Ahmet won the World Championship tournament and was named "Champion du Monde" (World Champion), a troupe of wrestlers challenged him to a "World Championship" match (Pons, Eberle, Constant le Boucher, Laurent le Beaucairois and Pytlasinski).
To clear this situation the sports newspaper, Journal des Sports, starts a second tournament named "Ringer-Criterium" at the Paris Folies-Bergére Theatre.
After a lot of matches between Pons and Ahmet that ended in a draw, this tournament was canceled on January 13, 1900.
On December 24, 1899 a third tournament started in the Casino de Paris with Pons, Pytlasinski, Maurice Gambier and a wrestler from Austria called Cyrill Wetasa.
