From the Vancouver Daily World:
"M’Intyre Makes A Good Showing With Gotch
By W.F. Findlay
After a close range view of Frank Gotch in action, pitted against the gamest and fastest man for his weight around these parts, it is easy to understand why the giant Iowa grappler had reached the pinnacle of mat fame and can get away with them all. He's the finest example of physical perfection as required by the wrestling game that devotees of this ancient sport have ever seen in modern times. Frank Gotch is just as splendidly equipped for the demands of wrestling as Bob Fitzsimmons was for the boxing game. In other words, nature has given this husky Iowa farmer strength, speed, agility, and a brain that acts just as fast as his muscles, but above all an ability to wrestle that comes just as natural to him as it does for a duck to take to the water.
Few even among those close at the ringside were aware of the amount of punishment that Chester McIntyre underwent at the hands of the world’s champion in those forty minutes of wrestling. I firmly believe that the popular [Vancouver Athletic Club] physical director would have lasted out the hour without losing more than two falls, if he had been able or had the necessary strength, not to throw Gotch, but to keep the champion from using the score or more of very effective but generally overlooked tricks that Gotch employed to weaken and wear out his opponent. The hammerlock which Gotch employed so often, was only one of them. Such playful little attentions as kneeling on his opponent's arm to deaden the muscles, the toe pull and ankle twist, the headlock and its attendant terrific strain on the neck muscles, sustained grips over the principal arteries to retard the circulation and the punishing effect of the crotch and half nelson all combined to wear out the champion’s plucky opponent with a minimum of exertion to Gotch.
To Mr. McIntyre there is due even more credit than the mere fact that he stayed with the world’s champion for over forty minutes. Against such a great handi-cap in weight as the 38 pounds the champion had to the good, he made a wonderful showing and demonstrated that he is one of the top-notchers in the light-heavyweight division. Game to the core, McIntyre never quit trying until his shoulders were pressed to the mat for the third time. Even after the second fall and while his attendants were trying to get the numbness out of his temporarily crippled arms, McIntyre said, as I asked him how he felt:
'My only chance is to get a fall on him now. He is too heavy and too strong for me to remain on the defensive with any hope of lasting out the hour.'
Sounds like the remark of a game man, doesn’t it?
'That man of yours gave me the best bout I have enjoyed since I left Kansas City last month, and I would like to see more of him. Beef counts, and I have it. Were Mac equal to me in poundage, I have no doubt that I should have to extend myself to fulfill my contract. It was a tough match,' said Gotch."

OCTOBER 11, 1912 (FRIDAY)
From the Vancouver Daily World:
"George Walker Has Easy Victim In Bazukos
Pete Bazukos’ Vancouver friends will find little to take pride in the grotesque exhibition, both physical and mental, their little Greek tin wrestling idol put up at Dominion Hall last evening in his match with George Walker. The match was Walker=s all the way through and the local boy=s admirers took the greater satisfaction in his victory by reason of the fact that it was his first appearance outside the rank of the simon-pures, the bout marking his professional debut in the wrestling world.
The first fall came in 14 minutes 44 seconds when Walker successfully [executed] an inside crotch and half nelson. The decision of Pat Connolly, who refereed the bout, met with the approval of everyone but Bazukos and a loud mouthed rubber in his corner. Bazukos attempted to argue the matter with Connolly and getting no satisfaction took a punch at the referee which failed of a landing place. Pat judiciously surveyed his puny opponent with a hand upraised, but smiled when the better thought struck him and he lowered his hand.
Bazukos raged around the ring during the intermission, displaying large wads of bills which he desired to bet, but found no one with the instincts of the hold-up man present to gratify his vanity. While he was raging Walker was resting and the different methods of disposing of their time told in the second fall.
It came in 10 minutes and 40 seconds, after Walker had twice had a lovely opportunity of ending the bout, when Bazukos got foul of a reverse body and inside crotch hold, scientifically and painlessly administered by his opponent, who put it into final execution at just the right moment.
Bazukos never looked like a wrestler all evening. The only exhibition he put up was a remarkable physical likeness to the species described by Jack London as the “abysmal brute”, and his mental exhibition was hardly in advance of that which might be expected from the same breed.
Wrestling in Vancouver has been conducted on a high level of cleanliness up to this time, and the fans don’t propose to have their pleasure spoiled by any such proceedings as were in evidence last night. There is no room in Vancouver sporting circles for Bazukos."
