September began on Monday the 1st. With no wrestling held in Shreveport that evening, Birmingham held the first card of the month. It was promoter Joe Gunther’s Labor Day Special. The card opened with two preliminary matches, both scheduled for one fall with a 15 minute time limit. Chris Millssovas faced Charlie Laye in one of the matches while Tom Bradley wrestled Paddy Mack in the other.
The main event was a tag team match with Nick Carter & Jimmy Siksay teaming to face Garza Lozano & Raoul Lopez. Tarzan White was initially to be Carter’s partner but he had suffered a leg injury the previous Thursday in New Orleans. White had to bow out of the match and newcomer Siksay took his place.
No results are known for this card.
On Tuesday in Monroe the card opened with a handicap match. The Black Phantom took one Bill Barney and Jack Roberts. Although Barney & Roberts were usually in the roles of referees, both were also accomplished wrestlers. Whether or not the Phantom realized this when he challenged the two is unknown. Roberts and Barnet gave the Phantom a hard time during the first fall until the masked man caught Roberts in a backbreaker and pinned him to win the fall. During the second fall Barney & Roberts trapped the Phantom in their corner and began unlacing his mask. Promoter Gus Kallio, who was serving as referee for the match, stopped them and threatened them with disqualification. Barney finally pinned the Phantom to win the title. The Phantom forced Barney to submit to a Boston Crab to win the final fall and the match.
In the main event World Light-Heavyweight champion Red Kirkpatrick put his title on the line against the challenge of Charlie Carr. Although neither man was particularly fond of following the rules, Louisiana native Carr was the favorite of the crowd in this match. Carr won the first fall as he used a leg stretch on Kirkpatrick and pinned him in 23 minutes. Carr started the second fall quickly and punished Kirkpatrick with a bear hug and then applied a toe hold. Kirkpatrick managed to endure each hold and finally caught Carr in an armlock and forced him to submit to win the fall in 10 minutes. The third and final fall only lasted 5 minutes as Kirkpatrick applied a leglock on Carr and forced him to submit to win the fall and the match and retain his title.
That same Tuesday evening in Baton Rouge Chris Millssovas and Rube Wright were matched in the opening match.
Perennial opponents Tom Bradley and Paddy Mack were matched in the main event.
No results are known for this card.
Also on Tuesday in Mobile Jimmy Siksay was matched with Charley Keene in the opening match. Siksay was billed as the Southern Jr. Heavyweight champion, but this was a non-title match. Keene continually tossed Siksay from the ring during the one fall match, but Siksay managed to return to the ring long enough to apply an abdominal stretch on Carr. Carr submitted and the match was awarded to Siksay.
In the main event Nick Carter took on Garza Lozano in a grudge match. Garza Lozano had complained about Carter’s interference the previous week in Mobile costing him a match against Tarzan White and had issued the challenge. Lozano was relentless as he battered Carter around, taking the first fall after a vicious attack. During the second fall, Lozano tossed Carter from the ring and unto the arena floor. While Lozano was arguing with the referee he failed to see Carter crawl under the ring and emerge on the other side. Carter surprised Lozano with a bodyslam and quick pin to even up the match. The third fall saw both men throw the rulebook out the window as they took turns punching, kicking and biting each other. Finally an exhausted Lozano collapsed on the mat and was pinned by Carter for the third and final fall.
On Wednesday in Alexandria Tom Bradley and Rube Wright met in the opening match of the two match card. Bradley pinned Wright to win the first fall. The hard charging Wright pinned Bradley to win the second fall and even the score.
In the final match, Chris Millssovas faced Paddy Mack. The match was even at a fall apiece going into the third and final fall. Millssovas dominated Mack throughout the final fall until Mack snuck in a low blow. Mack then applied a Hangman’s Hold on Millssovas and forced him to submit to win the fall and the match.
That same Wednesday in Gulfport Pat Newman faced Red Kirkpatrick, World’s Light-Heavyweight champion, in a non-title match. Kirkpatrick used his Hyland Thrust into Newman’s throat several times and pinned him to win the first fall in 28 minutes. Kirkpatrick started the second fall quickly but was flatted by a dropkick. Newman then pinned him to win the fall in 2 minutes. At one point in the third and final fall Kirkpatrick was bouncing off the ropes and hitting Neman with shoulder blocks. This continued until Newman caught Kirkpatrick coming off the ropes and dove at his feet. This caused Kirkpatrick to trip and tumble to the match. Newman quickly covered him for the pin to win the fall and the match in 6 minutes.
The feud between Jack Kelly and Pat Cronin continued as the two met in a 10 round boxing match. This gave Cronin the definite advantage because he was a former boxer who had been recognized as the Mississippi Heavyweight champion. Kelly surprisingly held his own, bothering Cronin with a right hand jab. Twice during the fight Cronin had to be warned by referee Pat Wilson when he caked Kelly into a corner and rammed his knee into Kelly’s stomach. Cronin scored a knockout of Kelly in 15 seconds of round 5. When the match was called doubts were raised as to whether or not Cronin scored a legitimate kayo. After an examination conducted by local commissioner Red Kenna it was decided that Cronin had done nothing wrong and he was given the match.
No wrestling was held in Pensacola on Wednesday night this week. Promoter Carl Wicklund felt he couldn’t compete with the boxing card featuring Willie Pep against Billy Lima being held at the Legion Field.
On the Wednesday night card in Decatur, Charlie Laye and Raoul Lopez battled to a 10 minute draw in the one fall opening match.
In the second one fall preliminary match, Garza Lozano used a Boston Crab to force Nick Carter to submit to win the match in 3 minutes.
The main event was a tag team match with Laye & Carter facing Lozano & Lopez. Laye & Carter won the first fall in 18 minutes. They also won the second fall in 30 minutes to win the match in two straight falls.
On Thursday in New Orleans Chris Millssovas defeated Rube Wright in the one fall opening match.
In the semi-final match Charlie Laye faced Garza Lozano. The match was even at a fall apiece going into the third and final fall. Lozano was disqualified for illegal tactics to give the fall and the match to Laye. It was also announced that the Louisiana State athletic commission was suspending Lozano for 30 days.
The main event was a tag team match with Tom Bradley & Jimmy Siksay taking on Raoul Lopez & Paddy Mack. Each team won a fall apiece and the match was even going into the third and deciding fall. All four men ended up fighting at ringside and were counted out by referee Charley Keene. Keene declared the match a no contest.
On Friday in Jackson Rex Mobley and Jack Kelly battled to a draw in the opening match of the night.
Both men returned for the semi-final match as Mobley teamed with Henry Harrell to take on Kelly & Charlie Carr in a tag team match. Carr forced Mobley to submit to a Boston Crab to win the first fall. Mobley used his rocking chair cradle on Carr and pinned him to win the second fall. Mobley’s hold also came into play in the third and final fall, but in an unconventional way. All four men were in the ring at the same time slugging away when Mobley applied his cradle on Kelly. When he rolled Kelly to the mat they both landed on referees Jack Roberts and Pat Willis. Carr tried to pull Mobley from Carr and Harrell grabbed him, causing them to also fall across the top of the referees. Harrell was on top of the pile and when he saw neither referee was able to count the fall he did it himself. Harrell then helped Mobley from the mat and raised his hand along with his own. The two referees were confused; each thinking the other had counted the fall. Despite the confusion, the fall and the match were awarded to Harrell & Mobley.
In the main event World Light-Heavyweight champion Red Kirkpatrick put his title up for grabs against Pat Cronin. Despite bleeding from a cut on his forehead, Cronin caught Kirkpatrick in a surfboard hold and forced him to submit to apparently win the first fall. Cronin refused to release the hold after Kirkpatrick gave up and wound up being disqualified by referee Jack Roberts, giving the fall to the champion instead. In the second fall Cronin’s cut was opened again by Kirkpatrick’s punches but he continued to fight back. His punches were sending Kirkpatrick flying and referee Roberts suspecting he may be making use of “the Thing”, his infamous weapon. Cronin would allow the referee to search him and continued to pound on Kirkpatrick. The champion suddenly applied his Aberdeen Clutch on Cronin and put him out to win the match in straight falls and keep his title. Referee Roberts was still determined to find “the Thing” and again tried to subject Cronin to a search. Cronin slugged Roberts and left the ring. Roberts followed him from the ring and the two fought all the way to the dressing room. Once in the dressing room, Roberts summonsed the local police to conduct a strip search on Cronin but “the Thing” was not found.
Also on Friday in Anniston Charlie Laye and Red Byrd fought to a 10 minute draw in the one fall opening match.
In the second one fall 10 minute match Nick Carter won over Raoul Lopez when Lopez was disqualified for illegal tactics.
All four men returned for the tag team match that made up the main event, with Carter & Laye teaming and Byrd joining forces with Lopez. Byrd & Lopez won the first fall in 16 minutes. Laye & Carter came back and won the second fall in 14 minutes. Laye & Carter also won the third and deciding fall in 8 minutes.

Also on Monday in Shreveport the card opened with a one fall match between Charlie Carr and Sockeye Jack McDonald. McDonald caught Carr with a back bodydrop and pinned him to win the match in 12 minutes.
The semi-final was a match between Henry Harrell and Irish Jack Kelly. In the first fall, Harrell was tossed from the ring by Kelly and onto the arena floor. Every time Harrell tried to return to the ring, Kelly kicked him back to the floor. Finally referee Conway Baker disqualified Kelly and awarded the fall to Harrell. In the second fall Harrell forced Kelly to submit to a Boston Crab to win the match in two straight falls.
The main event was a World Light-Heavyweight title match between champion Red Kirkpatrick and challenger Rex Mobley. Kirkpatrick used the Aberdeen Clutch on Mobley to subdue him to win the first fall in 20 minutes. Mobley pinned Kirkpatrick with his famed rocking chair cradle to win the second fall in 6 minutes. Kirkpatrick worked over Mobley’s arm again throughout the third and final fall, finally forcing him to submit to a hammerlock to win the fall in 7 minutes to win the match and retain his title.
On Tuesday in Monroe the evening opened with a match between Henry Harrell and Red Kirkpatrick. The match ended in a time limit draw.
The second preliminary match of the night, between Sockeye Jack McDonald and the Black Phantom, also ended in a time limit draw.
The main event was a tag team match with Harrell & McDonald teaming to take on the twosome of Kirkpatrick & the Black Phantom. Harrell pinned the Phantom to win the first fall in 19 minutes. Seely counted to three for a double pin, giving the fall and the match to Bradley & Keene.

In the main event Southern Jr. Heavyweight Champion Jimmy Siksay faced off with Charlie Laye in a non-title match. Siksay took the first fall with a dropkick and pin after 26 minutes of action. Laye tossed the rules aside in the next two falls. He pinned Siksay in the second fall with a rolling leg scissors. Then during the third fall he continually rammed Siksay’s head into the turnbuckles before pinning him for the fall and match.
On Wednesday in Alexandria the opening match featured Charley Keene facing Rube Wright, substituting for Paddy Mack who was unable to appear. Veteran Keene was just too overwhelming for Wright and pinned him in two straight falls to win the match.
In the main event Tom Bradley took on Raoul Lopez. Lopez pinned Bradley to win the first fall but Bradley came back to take the second fall and even the score. In the third and deciding fall Lopez continually fouled Bradley without much notice by referee Phil Brummett. Bradley finally began to give Lopez a taste of his own medicine but Brummett decided to start enforcing the rules. He warned Bradley about his tactics but Bradley responded by tossing Brummett to the mat. Bradley went back to pounding on Lopez but Brummett stepped in once again. This time Bradley punched Brummett on the jaw and sent him to the mat once again. This time when Brummett got to his feet he stopped the match and awarded the fall and the match to Lopez by disqualification.
That same Wednesday evening in Gulfport the card opened with another match between Jack Kelly and Pat Cronin. Once again the two met in a 10 round boxing match. Throughout the early rounds Kelly seemed to be handling Cronin, the former boxer, until Cronin began fouling him. at 1 minute and 10 seconds into round five, Cronin landed a knockout punch. Referee Jack Roberts counted 10 over Kelly and awarded the match to Cronin.
In the main event Gulfport’s own Pat Newman got a chance to win the World Light-Heavyweight title held by Red Kirkpatrick. The two men started the first fall slowly and cautiously until Kirkpatrick started the rough stuff. Kirkpatrick won the fall when he used a series of rolling cradles on Newman and pinned him after 10 minutes. In the second fall Newman hit Kirkpatrick with two bodyblocks off the ropes followed by two dropkicks. Newman pinned the champion to win the fall in 18 minutes. In the third and final fall Newman had a definite advance until Kirkpatrick started throwing punches. Newman lunged at Kirkpatrick, who ducked and tripped him. Newman fell to the mat hard and Kirkpatrick pinned him to win the fall and the match and retain his title.
Wrestling returned to Pensacola on Wednesday after a week off. Henry Harrell and Charlie Carr faced one another in the opening preliminary match.

The fall and the match were awarded to Mull by forfeit.
In the main event Charlie Laye faced Raoul Lopez. Lopez won two out of three falls over Laye to win the match.

In the semi-final match Rex Mobley faced Sockeye Jack McDonald. McDonald used a backbreaker on Mobley and pinned him to win the first fall. The remainder of the match was a rough one and at one point Mobley knocked down referee Pat Willis before tossing McDonald from the ring. McDonald got back into the ring and knocked Mobley through the ropes. Mobley got his foot caught in the ropes and was hanging outside of the ring by one leg. McDonald was kicking away at him when the bell rang, signaling the 60 minute time limit had expired. Since McDonald had won the only fall scored in the match, he was awarded the match.
The main event was A World Light-Heavyweight champion Red Kirkpatrick defending his title against Henry Harrell. Harrell was a former champion, holding the same crown the previous year. Kirkpatrick applied his Aberdeen Clutch to put Harrell out to win the first fall. Harrell pinned Kirkpatrick with a reverse jackknife to win the second fall. The third and final fall was more of a slugfest than a wrestling match as the two men punched away at each other. Then Kirkpatrick once again applied the Aberdeen Clutch but was standing on the bottom rope. Referee Jack Roberts moved in to break it up. He patted Kirkpatrick on the shoulder and the champion broke the hold. He assumed that Harrell had given up and raised his arm in victory. Harrell got to feet and pushed Kirkpatrick into the ropes and rolled him up with the reverse jackknife once again. Roberts counted the fall and awarded the fall and the match to Harrell. Henry Harrell was once again the World Light-Heavyweight champion once again. Or was he? Kirkpatrick began yelling that he was not aware of Roberts’ tap on the shoulder was a warning to break and he assumed that Harrell had conceded. He called commissioner Gordon Childress and promoter Billy Romanoff out to the ring. The three conferred and it was decided to arrange a rematch with a different referee. In the second fall Kirkpatrick tossed Harrell from the ring but Harrell got back into the ring and rolled Kirkpatrick up with a reverse jackknife and pinned him to win the second fall. This was Harrell’s second reign as champion.
On Tuesday in Monroe the card started with two preliminary matches. Sockeye Jack McDonald faced Red Kirkpatrick in one while Henry Harrell met Rex Mobley in the other. Both matches ended in time limit draws.
The main event was a tag team match with the duo of McDonald & Harrell facing the team of Kirkpatrick & Mobley. In an odd occurrence all four men had been World Light-Heavyweight champion, with Harrell being the current champion having defeated Kirkpatrick for the title the previous night in Shreveport. Harrell used a kangaroo kick on Kirkpatrick and pinned him to win the first fall in 18 minutes. Mobley pinned Harrell with his rocking chair cradle to win the second fall in 8 minutes. The third and final match was a quick one as McDonald pinned Kirkpatrick in 3 minutes to win the fall and the match. Shortly before the pin occurred, however, McDonald tried to punch Kirkpatrick, who ducked. The blow hit Harrell and the two partners briefly exchanged punches but nothing else came of it and they went on to win the match.

Siksay took the first fall with a shoulder slide after 23 minutes. Laye came back with a flying headlock and shoulder slide of his own to even up the match. The two battled for 10 minutes in the third fall when Siksay pinned Laye to the mat. It appeared that Laye escaped the pin and when both men rose to their feet their heads collided and both men fell to the mat unconscious. Referee Bob O’Regan declared that Siksay had scored the pinfall before Laye kicked out and awarded the match to him. Siksay was not satisfied and vowed to return and give Laye another title shot in the near future.
On Wednesday in Alexandria the card opened with a women’s match between Ethel Brown and Mary Jane Mull once again. They fought bitterly throughout the first fall before Brown tossed Mull with an arm toss and pinned her to win the fall. In the second fall Mull tossed Brown from the ring and onto the arena floor. Each time Brown tried to get back into the ring, Mull would kick her in the stomach, knocking her back to the floor. Finally referee Rube Wright stepped in and tried to allow Brown back into the ring, but Mull dropkicked both Brown and Wright and sent them both to the arena floor. When Wright got to his feet he helped Brown up and raised her hand, giving her the fall and the match by disqualification.
In the main event was a return match between Tom Bradley and Raoul Lopez. Each man had won a fall apiece and the match was even going into the third and deciding fall. The final fall saw the two men trading punches with Bradley getting in the better shots. He floored Lopez seven straight times before the wobbly Lopez grabbed him around the waist and pushed him into the ropes. Referee Rube Wright tried to break things up but had no luck. So Wright grabbed the top rope and used it as a slingshot to send both wrestlers sprawling to the mat. Lopez landed on top of Bradley in a pinning position and Wright made the count, giving the fall and the match to Lopez. With this victory Lopez was promised a shot at Jimmy Siksay’s Southern Jr. Heavyweight title.
Also on Wednesday in Baton Rouge Rex Mobley and Charlie Carr met in the first match of a double main event. Carr forced Mobley to submit to a Boston Crab to win the first fall in 7 minutes. Mobley roared back and snared Carr in his rocking chair cradle and pinned him to take the second fall in 2 minutes. In the third and final fall Carr once again caught Mobley in a Boston Crab only to have Mobley escape from it and reverse it into the rocking chair cradle. Mobley pinned Carr in 17 minutes to win the fall and the match.
In the second half of the double main event, a women’s match, Cora Combs faced Ella Waldek. In the first fall Waldek had Combs backed into a corner and was ramming her shoulder into Combs’ stomach. Suddenly as Waldek came in with another shoulder block, Combs kicked her legs up onto Waldek’s back and bent over into a curl. She flipped Waldek over and hooked her legs under Waldek’s arms and into a pin to win the first fall in 17 minutes. In the second fall Waldek was continually punching Combs. Combs began throwing some punches of her own, which sent Waldek scurrying from the ring to slow her momentum. When Waldek got back onto the ring apron, Combs grabbed her and slammed her to the mat and pinned her to win the fall in 11 minutes. That gave Combs a decisive victory in two straight falls.

The main event was a return title match between World Light-Heavyweight champion Henry Harrell and former champion Red Kirkpatrick. Their match the previous week in Jackson had ended in confusion with Harrell apparently winning the title and leaving the ring with the title belt. Kirkpatrick registered a complaint with the commission and evidently had the title returned to him. But Harrell made it official when he defeated Kirkpatrick in Shreveport on Monday of this week to claim the title officially. Harrell won the first fall when he used a reverse cradle on Kirkpatrick and pinned him. Kirkpatrick came back and subdued Harrell with the Aberdeen Clutch to win the second fall. In the second fall Combs applied some flying mares of her own as she tossed Waldek across the mat. Waldek retaliated with a series of kicks, but Combs rolled her up and pinned her to win the second fall. In the third and deciding fall Waldek lifted Combs up several times to apply a bodyslam only to have Combs escape. Finally Harrell was released and he punched Mobley in the face several time and pinned him to win the fall after 15 minutes. The punch landed on Brummett’s jaw and sent him to the mat. Lopez continued pounding on Siksay until the champion crumpled to the mat. Lopez covered him for the pin just as Brummett began to come around. Brummett saw Lopez pinning Siksay and counted to three. But what the dazed Brummett failed to see was that Siksay had his legs draped across the bottom rope. Brummett raised Lopez’s hand in victory but before he could reward him with the title belt, the commissioners at ringside stopped him. They informed Brummett as to what had taken place and declared the match a no contest, thus allowing Siksay to remain champion.

In Monroe the card featured a double main event. In the first event veterans Rex Mobley and Sockeye Jack McDonald squared off. McDonald appeared to have Mobley beaten in the first fall after applying a backbreaker. But rather than pinned him, McDonald snatched Mobley up by his hair at the count of 2 and applied another backbreaker. Mobley used the rocking chair cradle on McDonald and pinned him to win the second fall in 7 minutes, taking the match in straight falls.

In the second fall, the two spent most of the fall punching each other until Henning managed to upend Harrell and pinned him to win the fall in 5 minutes. Harrell and Henning tore into one another at the start of the third and final fall until Harrell once again tossed Henning out of the ring. Henning made his way back into the ring but Harrell tossed him out over the top rope and into the second row of ringside seats. Once again Henning managed to get as far as the ring apron before Harrell kicked him back to the floor. Harrell also tossed referee Bill Barney out of the ring as well. At this point Rex Mobley made his way to ringside. He climbed into the ring, in his street clothes challenged Harrell to a title match. Harrell told him to put his money where he mouth was and Mobley responded by reaching into his pocket and retrieving $200. He handed the money to promoter Gus Kallio who in turn gave it to Commissioner David Silverstein. Kallio then announced that the match would be held the following week in Monroe. Mobley and Harrell each left the ring and went to their respective dressing rooms. Nearly lost in all of this was Johnny Henning and referee Bill Barney. They both managed to get back into the ring where Barney raised Henning’s hand signaling that he had been awarded the match on a disqualification.
The Baton Rouge card also featured a double main event, both scheduled for best two out of three falls with a 60 minute time limit.

Carr started the second fall quickly and punished Kirkpatrick with a bear hug and then applied a toe hold. Kirkpatrick managed to endure each hold and finally caught Carr in an armlock and forced him to submit to win the fall in 10 minutes. While Lozano was arguing with the referee he failed to see Carter crawl under the ring and emerge on the other side. Carter surprised Lozano with a bodyslam and quick pin to even up the match. Finally an exhausted Lozano collapsed on the mat and was pinned by Carter for the third and final fall.

When Wright got to his feet he helped Brown up and raised her hand, giving her the fall and the match by disqualification.
In the main event was a return match between Tom Bradley and Raoul Lopez. Each man had won a fall apiece and the match was even going into the third and deciding fall. So Wright grabbed the top rope and used it as a slingshot to send both wrestlers sprawling to the mat.
