Don Sugai
On October 14, 1952 Don Sugai died tragically in a car accident. Whilst driving on the highway his car spun out of control throwing him from the vehicle and crushing him to death. The tragedy occurred while Sugai was driving home from a show he'd just competed on.
In highschool he was an All-State football player. In wrestling he was a journeyman wrestler who appeared in Ontario, San Francisco, and everywhere in between. There doesn't appear to be a record of him winning any titles, however, in his obituary it states he was known across the nation for his wrestling. He and his wife also owned a couple of cafes in Canada.
At time of passing he was only 39 years old. In 'Remembering the Argus' the newspaper's editor's son recalls how the funeral service was said to be a huge affair with wrestlers flying in from everywhere to pay their respects to their fallen comrade.
As a side note, the hold he is applying in the picture was on of his favorites. Sugai liked to call it the "Salvation Army Special."
