Tag Team Thumb-Sketch
Chapter One: Rip Hawk and Swede Hansen
#PWHS #Article #TagTeam #ThumbSketch #RipHawk #SwedeHansen

The first "bad guys" I liked when I was strictly a mark. One of the most unusual traits of the great Mid-Atlantic wrestling promoted by Crockett Sr. was his heel versus heel tag matches. What was even cooler, the teams would take on their main persona based on the crowd reaction that would change nightly based on the town they wrestled in.
Hawk and Hansen probably fought in the most heel vs heel matches as they were a main stay for over ten years during the Crockett years. Their opponents were a who's who in pro tag teams: the Bolos; the Infernos, with J.C. Dykes; Brute Bernard and Skull Murphy; the Bogni and Lubich, with the great (General) Homer O'dell, or Two Ton Harris; the Anderson Brothers (Ole with either Gene or Lars).
The magazines never had many singles in the rankings in the 60s from this territory, but the top ten tag team rankings always had two to four from this tag-team rich territory. You have been deprived if you have never seen when Art Nelson became a good guy to team with Johnny Weaver for well over a year and trade the Brass Knuckles Tag Team Trophy between themselves and the Royal Kangaroos (who had a special wooden case to carry the large trophy).
It looked like a shoot when in one television taping he turned on Weaver while wrestling Hawk and Hansen, and the villains just stared at each other in utter disbelief with their jaws to the mat!
