A Match 2 Remember
Chapter Three: First EVER "Televised" Match
#PWHS #Article #Match2Remember #M2R #TV #Television #FirstEver

While visiting New York City, Orville Brown - later to be first NWAlliance (Group) World Champion - was asked to be part of an experiment. With spotlights literally blazing, camera(s) televised his match to four inch diameter screens that were found in the building; not broadcast to the public, but sorta close-circuited inside the studio. Sadly, it was deemed impractical because of the intense heat caused by the needed wattage of the bright lights. It was said that during the testing, it was so hot (how hot was it?) that the lacquer from a cello melted. A strange, but true fact for the Historical Society.
A biography of Orville Brown can be found here, while his match record can be found here.
