Chapter One: Ric Flair's Broken Nose
#PWHS #Article #StoryBehindTheStory #SBTS #RicFlair #BrokenNose

Returning from the WWWF in 1979 Greg Valentine asked Ric to be his tag partner once again and rule the Mid-Atlantic area. However, Ric was being cheered now and would have nothing to do with his old friend Greg “the Hammer" Valentine even though they had won the World Belts before together.
Time for revenge. Greg acts like he has seen the error of his ways and begs Ric to forgive him; they could once again tag and Ric could fully trust him. They had traveled and partied for a long time and the time was now to reunite. Ric accepted as he had a tough match coming up against the Iron Shiek with his partner Jimmy Snuka (who only wore boots in the Mid-Atlantic region), and they had tag-team genius Gene Anderson in their corner as their manager.
Time for revenge. The sold-out Greensboro Coliseum almost rioted when a soon bleeding Flair reached out to Greg for a much-needed tag and Greg acted like he couldn’t reach him for the tag. S and S kept dominating Ric…then he would get a punch or kick in….he then crawled to his corner for the desperation tag…and GREG WOULD TAKE A WALK DOWN THE RING APRON. The security were earning their money this night as the fans wanted to get their hands on Greg in the worst way. How dare he treat his old buddy this way? How dare he lie to Ric and to the good fans of Greensboro?
Snuka and Shiek win the fall and Gene Anderson throws his ever-present walking cane over to Greg Valentine. Greg had tried to tell them to “doctor” the cane so it would break easy...but no; they said it would break and there would be no problems. Greg hits Ric as hard as he can with the hickory cane and nothing happens…to the cane. A second strike to Ric’s head and no luck. Gene is yelling, “Break the cane Kid”. Flair is now trying to escape further punishment. Greg takes one more wild swing and hits Ric right square on the bridge of his nose and the cane continues its downward motion and busts Ric’s mouth up pretty bad also.
Ric is taken directly to the hospital where he is told he has a broken nose and received multiple stitches to his lips. Greg calls him up around two in the morning and apologized-Ric said, “Don’t worry about it, We’re gonna make lots of money from it”-They went on to break attendance records battling each other in revenge matches.
Oh, by the way...THE CANE NEVER DID BREAK!!!
